My gauge is empty
MeterTab needs read access to your AI tools’ log folder. Open MeterTab, grant the folder when prompted, and make sure the tool (e.g. Claude Code) has actually been used recently. On a fresh machine you can also tap “Try with sample data” to see every feature populated.
Connecting it to my AI agent (MCP)
In the MeterTab tab, choose “Add to Claude Code” - it copies an .mcp.json snippet to your clipboard. Paste it into your project’s config and your agent can call get_budget, should_continue and get_service_status. The server runs inside the app; nothing is installed elsewhere.
The numbers don’t match Claude’s usage screen
Connect your Claude account (Calibrate / Connect in the panel) and the 5-hour and weekly figures come straight from your account, kept live between checks. Signed out, MeterTab works from your local logs against a learned limit - accurate once it has watched a few sessions, and clearly marked as an estimate until then. Two honest limits: usage on claude.ai or another machine can’t be seen locally (MeterTab tells you when it detects that), and Anthropic’s own percentage is reported in whole numbers, so small movements round.
The Claude status icon in my menu bar
MeterTab checks Anthropic’s public status page every few minutes and shows a small icon when something is wrong. To change or hide it, open the menu-bar panel and use the ? menu at the bottom → “Claude status in menu bar” (never / only during outages / always), and “Status notifications” alongside it. A “status unknown” reading means the last check didn’t get through - MeterTab says so rather than implying everything is fine.
The dollar amounts look far too high
On a Claude subscription those figures are API-equivalent, not money you spent: your tokens priced at pay-as-you-go rates, i.e. what the usage would have cost without a plan. They’re marked API-equiv wherever they appear, and the “plan value” figure compares them against what you actually pay each month. Real billed dollars only appear if you connect a provider API key, on the API tab.
My iPhone / Watch shows nothing
The companions mirror your Mac over iCloud. Check that: you’re signed into the same iCloud account on every device, MeterTab is running on your Mac with Pro (or a trial), and iCloud has had a minute to sync the first time. The iPhone app’s Settings screen shows the current sync status.
Restoring a purchase
MeterTab Pro is a Universal Purchase. On any device, open Settings and tap Restore Purchases. It unlocks under the same Apple ID that bought it.
Refunds
Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com within 90 days to request a refund.
Requirements
macOS 14 Sonoma or later for the Mac app; iOS 17 and watchOS 10 for the companions. Universal (Apple Silicon & Intel).
