MeterTab is a local-first app. It has no backend, requires no account, and collects no personal data. In App Store terms: Data Not Collected.

What MeterTab reads

To total your AI usage, MeterTab reads the log files your AI tools already write on your Mac (for example Claude Code, Codex and Cursor). You grant access to a folder once, through the standard macOS file picker. That access is read-only and the contents never leave your device.

API keys

If you choose to add a provider API key for exact billing figures, it is stored in the macOS Keychain, marked this-device-only. It is never written to logs, never synced, and is sent only to that provider’s own API when you request your spend.

Network connections

MeterTab makes no connection to any server operated by us, because there isn’t one. The only outbound requests are:

iCloud sync

With Pro, your Mac can sync its numbers to your iPhone and Apple Watch through your private iCloud database. Only token counts and percentages are synced — never your API keys, never message content, never anything that identifies you. Apple cannot read your private CloudKit data, and neither can we.

Analytics & tracking

None. MeterTab contains no analytics, no attribution, no crash-reporting SDK, and no third-party trackers of any kind.

Children

MeterTab is a developer utility and is not directed at children.
